The Providence Youth Student Movement (PrYSM)
PrYSM is a grass-roots youth-led multi-racial organization, born out of a community response to end the deportation of Southeast Asian refugees and immigrants. Today, PrYSM organizes at the intersections of race, class, gender, and sexual orientation by centering youth, female, queer, and people of color leadership in their campaigns. One of their campaigns led to the passage of the Providence Community Safety Act, a city-wide ordinance that protects the people of Providence against police misconduct. Asian American Resource Workshop (AARW)
Founded in 1979 as one of the Boston area’s first pan-Asian organizations, AARW is an intergenerational social justice nonprofit organization working for the empowerment of the Asian Pacific American community to achieve its full participation in U.S. society. They use the arts, education, and activism to build the skills and political analysis of their pan-Asian membership. Among their campaigns, is the Dorchester Not for Sale coalition which fights to ensure that development does not displace any current residents, leads to higher incomes, protects the ethnic and cultural enclaves, improves community safety and quality of life for all, and centers those most impacted.
